“The Minnesota men and women who serve in our armed forces face hardship, uncertainty and personal sacrifice in order to serve their country. They represent the best of Minnesota, and we owe them our deepest gratitude.”
State Representative Phil Sterner – speech on the Minnesota House Floor February 12, 2010
As the son of an Air Force Master Sergeant and the father of a son serving in the Air Force, Phil understands the deep personal commitment of those who are called to serve. He led the fight to get overdue bonus payments for members of Minnesota’s 34th Infantry Brigade “Red Bulls, working with state and federal lawmakers from both parties and with the Minnesota National Guard.
Phil voted for new laws making it easier for overseas military personnel to vote. He also authored legislation to offer chemical dependency counseling and financial counseling to returning veterans, and voted for expanded educational benefits for military members and their families.
Minnesota’s military men and women have no better friend than Phil Sterner. He knows that supporting our troops means more than bumper stickers and yellow ribbons. It means standing together as neighbors and friends to convey our gratitude for their service and sacrifice. Phil will continue working to ensure their needs are met, now and in the future.
